Fentimans Ginger Beer

I have a wildly varied history of experience with Fentiman's products, so I was a little wary going into this one. I am glad to say, however, that I came out of it very satisfied with the end result. My primary concern was that the spiciness of the ginger was going to be overwhelming. This has been my experience with other ginger beers so far, but Fentiman's has impressed me again with their take on the product. Like their other products, the ginger beer is botanically brewed, which adds an interesting and pleasant flavor to the fairly standard ginger taste. The ginger gives the drink just the right amount of bite (fringing on the "just-almost-a-little-bit-too-much-bite" boundary), and the flavor does not linger long in the aftertaste, giving the beverage a pleasantly sweet and tasty finish.

Fentiman's ginger beer is delicious, bit it is a little bit more spicy than some of the alternatives. If you are not a big fan of ginger, then this is probably not the drink for you. However, if you do like the taste of natural ginger or are looking for a new and interesting beverage to try, this is one to add to your list.

Verdict: Recommended

  2. I've had many brands of Ginger beer. Fetimans is top shelf.I was floored by the fact that it only made it to #8 on the 2013 Ginger Beer Pocket Guide. Fever Tree was #1, and I have yet to find it anywhere around me. There is one Ginger Beer that calls itself Ginger Ale, and is made in SC. It is Blenheim, and it has a kick that will not appeal to everyone. I liked it, but it isn't something I want to drink often. They felt the need to add carmel color ,and put it in a clear bottle. The carmel color is not needed, and it isn't used in many of the Ginger beers. The brown bottle, or dark green in some cases, is used by many Ginger beers, and many other types of beer. Why? Because light is a natural destroyer of flavor. In any case, the Blenheim was full of Ginger flavor, and had the biggest spicy bite of almost all that I have tried to date. I can bye Fentimans at a local branch of a national beverage distributor for $6.99 for 4 9.3 oz bottles. It is one of the very best for my taste. I've tried Saranac too, and it is closer to being a spicier version of Schwepps than anything else. It also did not make it to the 2013 Pocket guide for some reason.
